New Song Release! The Eagle’s Nest

Today I am releasing another new song written towards the end of my series on Psalm 91, entitled The Eagles Nest. It’s a perfect song to sum up some of the truths shared in the series of Psalm 91 seen through New Testament eyes.

The song begins with the words, “Draw Me Near, into the place where I can find rest. In the Secret Place, close to You every trial and every test, fades away.” This truly echoes the sentiment of what it means to Abide under the Shadow of the Almighty. In by making the Lord our refuge and fortress we are putting our trust in Him and allowing His promises to deliver us from fear and temptation.

The Secret Place of intimacy postures us at His feet to listen to His voice. The First Chorus then sings: “I was made for You, Giver of all Truth. I was made to listen at Your feet and worship You alone. I was made for You, Giver of all grace. When I come to look upon Your glorious face, I find rest.” This reminds me of 2 Corinthians 3:18, “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (NKJV)

All this can happen because of what Jesus did on the cross. Those of us who are washed in the blood of Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit can come boldly before his throne of grace. Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (NKJV)

This leads into the 2nd verse. “Draw me to Your mercy seat, where I’m covered by Your wings. Bowing down at Your feet, where the whole earth sings, glorious praise!” The mercy seat is where the High Priest would sprinkle the blood of the sacrifice on the mercy seat in the Holy of Holies on the day of atonement for all the people. The Wings refer to the two cherubim covering the mercy seat.

2nd Chorus: “We were made for You, Giver of all Truth. We were made to listen at Your feet and worship You alone. We were made for You, Giver of all Grace. When we come to look upon Your glorious face, we find rest.”

Finally, the bridge begins with a verse that comes from Isaiah 66:1 “Heaven is My throne, and earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build for Me? And where is the place of My rest?” (NKJV0 This refers to the new house being built in Him when the Holy Spirit comes and makes us the Temple of the Holy Spirit.

Bridge: “Heaven is Your throne and earth Your footstool. We are the house being built for You. We are the place where Your Spirit can find rest. A Holy Place, the Eagles Nest.”

Here we are singing this to the Lord as a reminder of that truth. We are the house being built for Him. A place where His Spirit can find rest. The Eagles Nest is mentioned because often the wings mentioned in vs. 4 of Psalm 91 bring up the image of the covering of the Eagles Wings hovering over the nest where the young are protected and nurtured. Being in that safe place is a Holy Place. Indeed, the Secret Place under the Shadow of the Almighty is where we all find rest in Him.
