The beautiful picture of the flag with the mountains and beautiful green terrain around it was taken from the parking lot of the hotel that my husband and I are staying while waiting to move into our new home in the Battle Ground Cottages that were built on the land of Fort Oglethorpe in Northern Georgia. It made me think about the song I wrote entitled “America, America”. We are entering into the weekend of the rededication of our country to God, the God of our Founding Fathers in the 250th year since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, thus the birth of our Nation. I thought this song was appropriate to release from the podcast I did with a dear friend the week after the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
The song “America, America” was literally written by me the week before Charlie Kirk’s assassination. I was sitting in my beautiful sunroom about to sing the whole song when I received a text from a dear friend that Charlie Kirk had been shot. I was shocked. I was not an avid follower of Charlie Kirk but I knew he stood for the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the very principles our Nation was built upon. I sensed he was gone and was martyred for the sake of Truth found in Jesus Christ. It made sense that the lyrics and melody came to me for such a time as this.
The first verse comes from the famous Scripture in 2nd Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name would humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways…”—that is exactly the sentiment of our rededication of America back to God. The song then goes into the first chorus where we hear God’s response: “America, America land of the free, America don’t give up on me, America what you have started, you will complete in Me.”
The rest of song unfolds with words of passion from the heart of God for our Nation. May they encourage us as we rededicate ourselves and our nation back to God.
Blessings,
